You wait all this time for a model of the Blue Pullman, and then two come
along at once...  Hard on the heels of the news that Olivias Trains of
Sheffield have approached Heljan to produce an 00 gauge model of the
train (reported in Raildate 11th June) Bachmann have now announced that
they will be producing the 6-car Midland Pullman set, with the 8-car
Western units presumably following in due course:

Stop Press:  There is a rumour that Hornby is also producing a Blue Pullman model!

A great online map resource.  This takes you to a modern OS map of the Worthing
area, from which you can move to any other part of the country, or zoom in and out
to see different scale maps:

Old Maps have recently changed their interface and it is now much clearer
to see both the 2,500 and 10,560 for approximately 1880, 1899, 1910 and
1930 maps:

to call time.  Five minutes from the station and full of other memorabilia

Bude Heritage Day takes place on 8th August, celebrating both the Bude
Canal and the achievements of Sir Goldsworthy Gurney.  It is based on Bude
Castle.  The Bude canal was built as a tub boat canal to carry beach sand
as a fertiliser to the acid farmland inland.  It relied almost exclusively
on inclined planes, which were also its weakness.  It is now navigable
from Bude to the foot of the first inclined plane Helebridge on the A39.
Sir Goldsworthy Gurney was a prolific inventor who never received proper
credit for his inventions.  These included a successful road steam
carriage, the Bude Light (a combination of limelight and light pipes)
which successfully illuminated the House of Commons, and the Steam Jet
which was the basis of all steam locomotive blastpipes.

Ralph Rawlinson's Railway Roundup

London Crossrail & Thameslink
The foundations have been laid for London's major transport hub at
Faringdon station.  From 2017 upwards of 140 trains per hour will flow
through the station as north-south Thameslink, east-west Crossrail and LUL
services will all meet there.  It will be the only station from which
passengers will be able to access the three services and will mean that
Faringdon would surpass Clapham Junction as Britain's busiest station.

Manchester Metrolink
The newly-extended Queen's Road depot, that can now accommodate up to 44
trams, was officially opened on 15th July 2010.

The new line to Oldham and Rochdale will diverge from the Bury route at
Irk Valley Junction.  The points here will be reinstated by means of a
seven day blockade between Saturday 31st July and Friday 1st August.

Liverpool Overhead Railway
The last surviving coach from the LOR, the first elevated electric line in
the world, was moved on 28th July 2010, from a secret location to the new
Museum of Liverpool.

Airdrie-Bathgate reopening
The first test trains will run in October 2010 with the relocated Bathgate
station opening on 17th October and services commencing in December.

Tibet

Philippines
The long-dreamed of Mindanao Railway System (MRS) aims to connect urban
centres and provincial capitals in Mindanao such as Zamboanga, Pagadian,
Dipolog, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Marawi, Cotabato, and Davao. Construction
is scheduled to start in 2011 with the initial phase connecting Mindanao
and the new airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental in use by 2013.

Mozambique/Botswana
On 16th July, the governments of Mozambique and Botswana signed a
memorandum of understanding for the the building of a 1,100km line from
Serule in Botswana through Zimbabwe, connecting with a deep water port
being developed at Techobanine Point, in Mozambique's southernmost
district of Matutuine.  The envisaged port would be able to handle bulk
ships, oil tankers and passenger vessels.
